A well-established organization in the Des Moines metro is seeking a Senior Accountant to serve as a key financial partner to operational leaders across multiple locations and service lines. This position combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with budgeting, financial analysis, process improvement, and leadership support.
The ideal candidate will understand the accounting complexities found within healthcare, senior living, or multi-family real estate environments, including location-based financial reporting, property-related assets, service-line profitability, capital projects, and partnership with non-financial operational leaders. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Partner with operational leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis
- Prepare management reports, investigate variances, and provide actionable financial insights
- Serve as the primary accounting resource for assigned locations or business units
- Maintain fixed assets, depreciation, construction-in-progress, and other key balance sheet schedules
- Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting accuracy
- Support cash management, external audits, tax reporting, and cross-functional accounting activities
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational and financial performance
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong understanding of financial accounting, month-end close, fixed assest inventories, and financial reporting
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting
• Background within healthcare, senior living, multi-family real estate, property management, or another multi-location environment strongly preferred
• Strong Excel skills and experience working within an ERP or financial reporting system
• CPA, CMA, master's degree, or other advanced certification is a plus
• Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting systems is helpful but not required
