Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to administer, maintain, design, and optimize enterprise relational database systems. This position will play an important role in supporting both proprietary and third-party database environments while ensuring database performance, reliability, availability, and recoverability.
The ideal candidate brings strong Microsoft SQL Server administration experience along with exposure to cloud-based database technologies. This individual will work independently on database architecture, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, backup and recovery, and database components supporting application development, data warehouse, finance, and mainframe teams.
This role also provides an opportunity to work across a broader database technology environment that may include DB2, Cosmos DB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain proprietary and third-party relational database systems
- Provide database architectural design and engineering support for new systems and applications
- Monitor database performance and identify opportunities to improve overall system performance
- Troubleshoot database issues and research solutions to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency
- Manage database backup and recovery processes
- Create and maintain database-related components supporting application and technology teams
- Partner with Data Warehouse, Finance, Application Development, Mainframe, and other technology teams
- Support the administration and maintenance of the organization's BizTalk environment
- Analyze moderately complex database issues and make independent technical decisions
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and support technology initiatives
- Protect confidential and sensitive organizational data
- Balance multiple priorities while meeting project and operational deadlines
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 3 or more years of related database administration, database engineering, or similar experience
- Bachelor's degree in database engineering, computer engineering, computer science, MIS, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience working with cloud-based database technologies
- Strong database administration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills
- Experience with database backup and recovery
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgment
- Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with application development, infrastructure, data, and business teams
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to changing priorities
Preferred Skills:
- DB2 administration experience
- Experience with Cosmos DB
- Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
- Experience with programming languages such as C# or Microsoft Visual Basic
- Experience working in an Agile environment
- Knowledge of ITIL or similar methodologies
- Understanding of network environments
- BizTalk experience
- Property and casualty insurance industry experience
- Knowledge of insurance coverages, rating schemes, and insurance products
- Strong mathematical and statistical analysis skills

If you are hired, your base salary will be determined based on factors such as individual skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition, we also believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth
