Job Description
The Reserves Network is partnering with a long-established Omaha manufacturer to hire a Staff Accountant. This position will manage accounts payable and weekly payroll while also supporting general ledger accounting, reconciliations, capital expenditures, and month-end close.
This role is designed for someone who is comfortable handling transactional accounting responsibilities but also has the accounting knowledge and initiative to investigate discrepancies, improve processes, and take routine work off the Controller’s plate.
The accounting department is a small, collaborative team consisting of a Controller, Staff Accountant, and Accounts Receivable Specialist. Because of the size of the organization, the Staff Accountant will gain broad exposure and contribute outside narrowly defined responsibilities when needed.
What You’ll Do
- Manage the full accounts payable process, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment processing
- Process weekly payroll for approximately 85 salaried, hourly, and temporary employees
- Prepare journal entries and post activity to the general ledger
- Complete bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding or unusual items
- Assist with month-end close and financial reporting activities
- Maintain capital expenditure and depreciation schedules
- Reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and related subledgers
- Research discrepancies and independently resolve out-of-balance accounts
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, controls, and workflow
- Support the Controller with additional accounting projects and reporting needs
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Staff Accountant, Accounting Specialist, or similar hands-on accounting experience
- Experience managing accounts payable and payroll processes
- Knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
- Exposure to month-end close activities
- Ability to independently research discrepancies and determine appropriate corrections
- Strong attention to detail and consistent follow-through
- Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work fully on-site
- Comfort working within a small, collaborative accounting team
- Manufacturing or small-company accounting experience preferred
- ADP payroll experience helpful but not required
Your New Employer
Our client is a privately owned Omaha manufacturer with more than six decades of operating history. The company produces temperature-controlled shipping products used to protect sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare items, along with insulated retail and custom-branded consumer products.
The organization continues to expand its pharmaceutical shipping and national retail business while maintaining the stability and personal environment of a smaller company. Employees are known for their longevity, with many team members building careers with the organization over several decades.
This position offers broader accounting exposure than a traditional accounts payable or payroll role. The Staff Accountant will work directly with the Controller, take ownership of essential processes, and have the opportunity to make practical improvements that impact the business.
