Payroll & Benefits Specialist | $25–$30/Hour + Benefits | On-Site – Brand New Office | Direct Hire | Lincoln, NE
A well-established agriculture and blue-collar employer in Lincoln is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join its team. This is an exclusive direct-hire opportunity with a stable, growing organization supporting more than 400 employees through multiple locations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on payroll experience, a solid understanding of payroll taxes, and experience administering HRIS functions, onboarding, and employee benefits. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in payroll accuracy, employee support, and HR operations while partnering closely with leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accurate bi-weekly payroll for 250+ employees, including hourly and salaried staff
- Ensure payroll taxes, garnishments, overtime, benefits deductions, and withholdings are processed accurately
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with payroll laws and internal policies
- Administer employee onboarding, HRIS setup, and payroll documentation for new hires
- Train managers and employees on timekeeping, payroll processes, and leave approvals
- Assist with benefits administration, open enrollment, leave management, workers' compensation, and retirement plans
- Support payroll, benefits, and retirement audits while partnering with third-party vendors
- Respond to employee payroll and benefits questions while providing exceptional internal customer service
Qualifications
- 1–2+ years of payroll and/or benefits administration experience
- Experience in processing high-volume payroll for all employees
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and payroll best practices
- Experience with HRIS systems
- Knowledge of employment laws related to wages, overtime, leave, and payroll compliance
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Experience within blue-collar industries is a plus
