Job Description
In this position, the Maintenance Technician will support the upkeep, safety, and functionality of multifamily public housing properties. Working under the direction of the Lead Maintenance Technician, this role is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance duties including repairs, unit turnovers, preventative maintenance, and general property upkeep. This position requires hands-on technical ability across multiple trades, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.
Responsibilities:
- Perform general maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and repairs
- Complete apartment turnover preparation including cleaning and repair of vacant units
- Remove furniture, appliances, carpeting, and debris from vacant units following disposal procedures
- Perform preventative maintenance to reduce future maintenance issues
- Maintain cleanliness of grounds, common areas, and exterior spaces
- Conduct repairs on doors, windows, walls, fixtures, and building systems
- Assist with painting and unit preparation as assigned
- Follow all safety policies and promptly report hazards or concerns
- Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately and timely
- Assist other maintenance staff with projects and workload as needed
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of residential, apartment, or general maintenance experience preferred
- Knowledge of basic building maintenance practices, hand tools, and repair equipment
- Strong ability to perform physical labor including lifting, carrying, digging, sanding, and moving materials
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs independently and heavier items with assistance when required
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license required
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Ability to use carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance tools and equipment
- Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and crawl spaces as needed
- Ability to climb ladders and perform work at heights
- Ability to stand for extended periods during work activities
- Ability to move appliances and heavy objects using proper equipment or assistance
