Job Description
The AI Estimator will review construction plans and specifications to develop accurate cost estimates for residential homebuilding projects. This role will also review and improve estimates created by AI tools, using construction knowledge, historical costs, and current market pricing. The AI Estimator will work with product, engineering, and data teams to help improve AI estimating tools and processes. Success in this role requires strong estimating experience, attention to detail, and the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated information.
Responsibilities:
- Review architectural plans, specifications, and scopes of work to develop detailed cost estimates.
- Validate and correct AI-generated estimates using plans, historical cost data, and current market pricing.
- Identify errors and gaps in AI estimates and provide feedback to improve accuracy.
- Partner with product, engineering, and data teams to test and improve AI estimating tools.
- Document estimating assumptions, best practices, and lessons learned while communicating risks and variances clearly.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of estimating experience with a homebuilder.
- Strong knowledge of residential construction estimating, materials, and processes.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and construction blueprints.
- Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT and/or Claude.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to evaluate AI-generated estimates, identify discrepancies, and make corrections.
- Familiarity with construction cost databases, labor rates, and regional pricing trends.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage work on a contract or project basis.

The base salary range for this position is $38-45 per hour, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation. Your final salary will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
