Job Summary:
Harris County is looking for a Staff Accountant that will support day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, revenue recognition, and account reconciliations. This role requires a working knowledge of GASB standards and financial accounting principles, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and supporting documentation.
- Perform monthly account and bank reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare and review financial statements and accounting reports.
- Record and monitor revenue in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Ensure accounting activities comply with GASB requirements and financial policies.
- Research and resolve account discrepancies and variances.
- Analyze financial data and identify trends or unusual transactions.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting schedules.
- Assist with audits by preparing requested documentation and reports.
- Prepare Excel-based financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Collaborate with accounting, finance, and other departments to resolve financial issues.
Education/Experience:
- Must have extensive experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong knowledge of GASB, financial accounting rules, regulations, and standards required.
- Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Minimum of at least one (3) year experience in accounting, finance, or related field

In the spirit of pay transparency, we want to share the base hourly pay rate for this position is $31.44 – $37.00 per hr, not including benefits, potential bonuses or additional compensation. If you are hired, your base salary will be determined based on factors such as individual skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition, we also believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.
