Payroll Manager | Direct Hire – Leadership Role, Small Team | Des Moines, IA | Onsite | $90,000–$120,000
A well-established, multi-location organization is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations, strengthen internal controls, and drive continuous improvement across a complex employee population. This is a high-visibility role for a proactive payroll leader who can modernize processes and enhance the overall payroll function.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Supervise and develop payroll team members
- Maintain and enhance payroll controls, audits, and reporting processes
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure accurate deductions and reconciliations
- Oversee payroll tax filings, garnishments, year-end processing, and reporting
- Serve as primary contact for payroll-related inquiries and agency communication
- Prepare payroll reporting and analytics to support budgeting and planning
- Identify and implement automation and process improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of payroll experience or active CPP, preferred
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax and wage-and-hour compliance
- Experience with payroll/HRIS systems
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Experience in multi-site or complex payroll environments preferred
- Demonstrated process improvement and team mentorship/ leadership
