Job Description
An established Omaha organization is seeking a dependable Accounts Receivable & Billing Specialist to join its accounting team. This position will focus primarily on accounts receivable, customer billing, cash application, and account reconciliation while also providing support in other areas of accounting when needed. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys becoming a reliable and knowledgeable member of an accounting department and is looking for long-term stability within an individual contributor role. What You Will Do
- Prepare and issue accurate customer invoices according to established billing schedules and contract terms.
- Apply customer payments received through checks, ACH, wire transfers, credit cards, or other payment methods.
- Research unidentified payments and ensure cash is applied to the correct customer accounts and invoices.
- Monitor accounts receivable balances and review aging reports for outstanding or past-due accounts.
- Contact customers regarding invoice questions, missing payments, account balances, and payment status.
- Research billing discrepancies and work with customers or internal departments to resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate customer records, billing information, and supporting documentation within the company’s accounting system.
- Reconcile customer accounts and investigate unapplied cash, short payments, overpayments, and credit balances.
- Assist with collections activity by following up professionally on outstanding invoices and documenting customer communication.
- Process credit memos, account adjustments, refunds, or billing corrections when appropriate.
- Work with internal departments to confirm billing details and resolve customer account issues.
- Complete account reconciliations and provide general ledger support.
- Prepare or assist with journal entries and month-end accounting responsibilities.
- Support accounts payable, payroll, or other accounting functions when additional coverage is needed.
- Learn and follow the company’s internal accounting and ERP procedures.
- Identify practical opportunities to improve billing accuracy, cash application, or accounts receivable workflows.
- Work closely with accounting leadership and other team members to meet regular deadlines.
What You Need
- Previous accounts receivable, customer billing, cash application, or collections experience.
- Experience working in a high-volume accounting environment.
- Ability to manage multiple customer accounts, invoices, payments, and deadlines accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate account records.
- Ability to research and resolve billing, payment, and account discrepancies.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfort communicating directly with customers, coworkers, and internal leadership.
- Willingness to learn new systems, procedures, and technology.
- Flexibility to assist outside of accounts receivable when the accounting team needs support.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP software.
- Ability to work on-site in Omaha.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with full-cycle accounting responsibilities.
- Previous experience with customer billing, cash application, account reconciliation, or collections.
- Experience reviewing accounts receivable aging reports and following up on outstanding balances.
- Experience completing account reconciliations or journal entries.
- Involvement with month-end close or general ledger accounting.
- Exposure to accounts payable, payroll, or other transactional accounting functions.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field preferred, but not required.
