Job Description
Our client, a rapidly growing private equity-backed construction services platform, is conducting a confidential search for a hands-on Controller to lead full-cycle accounting operations for a complex, multi-location, unionized business unit in the St. Louis metro area.
This role owns accounting operations for a project-driven business with revenue ranging from $40M–$100M+ depending on contract awards. The Controller must personally execute reconciliations, lead a disciplined 7–8 business day close, and build scalable infrastructure to support acquisition-driven growth. Approximately 50% travel is required, along with flexibility during peak construction cycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute monthly close within 7–8 business days
- Ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting
- Personally perform and review complex reconciliations
- Manage and develop 6–7 direct reports
- Oversee multi-entity, multi-location accounting operations
- Navigate multi-state union payroll complexity
- Support acquisition integration and process scaling
- Partner with executive and private equity leadership
Required Qualifications
- Proven hands-on Controller-level operational experience
- Demonstrated 7–8 day close track record
- Strong GAAP foundation
- Multi-entity, multi-location accounting experience
- Project-based or construction-related accounting background
- Ability to personally run close and reconciliations
- Experience managing revenue swings in the $40M–$100M+ range
- Willingness to travel approximately 50%

The base salary range for this position is $140,000–$160,000, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation. Your final salary will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
