Don’t Sweat Your Next Career Move This Summer: Get A Temp Job!

For much of the US, the summer is just beginning to heat up. If you’re like millions of other Americans, you’re searching for work instead of a spot by the pool. If you are an active job seeker this summer, consider the benefits of a temp job:

Do you know yourself as an employee? Many of us take the jobs that are offered to us throughout our careers without taking a good, hard look at what we want and where we would like to be down the road. Taking a temporary position would allow you to try something different without risk or take on a role that sheds light on the type of work you’re destined for.

Entry-level job seeker? You will also find out for the first time exactly who you are in your career so that your first full-time job is the right one.

Skill Boost

Whether you want to hone skills you already have or you would like to add new skills to your repertoire – a temporary position is a wonderful start!

In a new full time position, you may not get the training you need and you’ll be thrown in to big projects. However, staffing firms often secure job training for temp hires. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow while serving a reputable company.

If you are brand new to the workforce, this is a dynamic post-school opportunity to build your skillset.

Resume Boost

In a gap period, a temp job is better than no job, especially if you make the most of the opportunity. In this way, you will be able to speak to the skills you gained and the results you enacted for the employer in your next full time job interview.

For new grads and career-switchers, this is a great opportunity to demonstrate that you’re proactive about your career and chose to grow as an employee rather than take the summer off.

Network Boost

Summer jobs boost your network in two very important ways. First, you will meet many people – your manager, coworkers, and even clients or vendors – who may connect you with your next gig. Even better, your employer may look to bring you on full time once your temp period has ended. In fact, according to this infographic, 67% of employers who hire temps do indeed look at them first for new full time vacancies.

This is summer. Whether you have children, planned vacations, or simply a penchant for soaking up the sun, flexibility is lovely. Employers may run multiple shift periods or be willing to consider more unique start and end times for your shift to accommodate your family’s needs.

We encourage you to consider these benefits when deciding whether to apply for or accept a temp job. Here at The Reserves Network, we match job seekers with the perfect temp jobs every day. We are starting to fill summer job roles all over our target area. If you are interested in being fit with your ideal summer job, work with us today!

Top Skills of the Best Warehouse Employees

The right warehouse candidates can be the difference between a well-oiled machine and a rusty old factory. In a labor intensive field, your light industrial candidates are your ultimate human capital. Without a talented team, the warehouse won’t function. So what exactly should you be looking for when hiring a warehouse employee?

The number one trait of top warehouse employees is dependability. If a warehouse candidate has a proven track record of great attendance and a diligent work-ethic, then that is a great indication that they will produce for your company. Someone who is dependable has a propensity towards proper professional ethics as well. A dependable employee will be less likely to be found socializing during their shift, not giving a proper two week notice, goofing off and endangering their coworkers, etc.

Warehouse environments can be vastly different and ever changing. Depending on the type of work, location or staff constraints, a warehouse hire could be required to work cross department, in extreme temperatures, or have flexible hours to fit the needs of your company. This requires not only the ability to handle a flexible work environment, but more importantly the willingness as well.

Look for candidates with diverse experience and a can-do attitude.

Communication & Listening

In a warehouse, communication is imperative. One wrong move can ruin a load of materials or create a hazardous situation. Be certain that your top warehousing candidates have exception written and verbal communication skills. This will ensure that they will be able to take and give instructions for safe and efficient work.

When you are a part of a working factory, it’s important to be able to make decisions efficiently and effectively. Employees that can implement great critical thinking and problem solving skills to come to a quick and comprehensive decision are a terrific asset in a warehouse. Look for candidates that exude the capabilities and confidence of an effective decision maker.

If you are a business looking to add Columbus warehouse candidates, Charlotte laborers, Atlanta light industrial employees or Clearwater professionals, consider working with The Reserves Network. We provide all of the resources and wherewithal of a national recruiting powerhouse but with the attentiveness and care of a neighborhood resource. Contact TRN today.

Akron – 1704 W. Market Street
Brunswick – 3917 Center Road
Elyria – 541 Midway Blvd.
Fairview Park (Company Headquarters) – 22021 Brookpark Road

All of our Northern Ohio offices got together and helped out for this cause. We even had some fun participating in a March Madness Bracket Challenge, where entry fees went to Harvest for Hunger.

“We are so thankful to everyone at The Reserves Network for the commitment and generosity throughout this year’s Harvest for Hunger campaign,” says Samantha Martin, Food and Funds Drive Manager. “The need for emergency food in Ohio is greater than ever. One in six Ohioans struggles to put food on the table, and the compassion and kindness of organizations such as The Reserves Network makes an incredible impact on the lives of our neighbors in need. Five Ways to Expand Your Talent Pipeline

With the current skills gap in the U.S., it is more important than ever to expand your talent pipeline. Generating a successful recruiting pipeline takes a lot of time and resources, but the cost of bad hires and lack luster talent is far greater. If your company is looking to grow its talent pool, then perhaps it should implement these strategic staffing solutions.

Prepare For Growth

Your HR department can only handle so many applicants at a given time. By investing in a Human Capital Management System, you are allowing your HR department to take on a larger breadth of talent in an organized fashion. Not only can you handle more applicants but you can also store and track your most talented candidates for the next round of hiring.

Utilize Current Recruiting Resources

A Human Capital Management System is always a worthy investment. However, if you are not taking full advantage of all of your current recruiting resources, then you are diminishing your talent pipeline.

How useful are your local surroundings? What universities or programs could you develop strong bonds with? Do you have an employee referral program?

Don’t invest extra time and resources towards expanding your pipeline until you have fully developed your current recruiting pipeline.

Actively Recruit Passive Candidates

It should come as no surprise that the majority of top candidates are currently employed. This requires a more involved recruiting approach that most companies choose to neglect.

Recruiting passive candidates is a lot like dating. Finding the perfect candidate should take more time than just filling a simple position with anybody who’s qualified. There’s a courting process that takes persistence and determination. While this may seem like a risk or a waste of time, it’s what your company has to do to succeed in recruiting high end talent.

The best way to expedite this process is to connect with passive candidates on the medium that they use. This means actively recruiting on LinkedIn, Twitter, email or even over the phone. Whichever network your recruit prefers is going to yield the best results to convince a passive candidate to leave their current employer for you.

Another great way to expand your recruiting pipeline from Milwaukee to Orlando is to work with The Reserves Network. We are a leader in the staffing field with the care and attention of a local provider. Take your business’s recruiting to the next level and contact TRN today.

Looking for World Class Talent?

Your Employees Could be Quitting Because of You

Turnover rate is always a concern for businesses, and is a chief complaint among managers. This is a very expensive problem that forces companies to constantly ask themselves, “Why am I always losing good employees?” The answer, more than likely, is a reflection of how these employees were treated by their supervisors.

Monitor your managers and be sure that they are not giving off these red flags that send good employees packing.

Disrespecting the Process

Teams create processes based on what has been established as the functions and goals of their department. In comes the manager complaining about one particular aspect of the process and all of the sudden this process, which works, doesn’t matter anymore.

Often, when numbers are down or a complaint is received, managers look for the quickest fix. This seemingly simple fix can disrupt the entire workflow for an employee or department, may not be a good long-term solution to the problem. Make sure that your managers are keeping the bigger picture in mind, and have them relay on employees for day-to-day details.

Undervaluing Good Employees

It can be easy for supervisors to only focus on what their subordinates do wrong instead of all of the things they are doing right. This can distort and undermine how valuable these employees are to the company.

There is also an issue of pride that arises when managers feel as though they have to be better than their employees, which can be harmful to the group. Each employee is a specialist in what they do, so no manager should feel the need to have to compete with their staff. A manager’s job is to lead, and part of being a good leader is relying on the strengths of those around you.

Lacking Honesty & Transparency

One of the quickest ways to lose good employees is to make empty promises. Promising an employee a raise, bonus, new equipment or a valuable new hire, and not following through on that pledge is going to cause that employee to disengage from their work. Once you lie to an employee, they will no longer want to trust you with their career.

Along the same lines as lying is not being fully transparent with your associates. If your managers are not upfront with goals, expectations and budget, their direct reports are going to feel slighted and start looking for more reliable work.
