Summary
We are seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer or Senior Engineering Manager with deep expertise in Indium Phosphide (InP) laser and photonic device manufacturing. This individual will lead the development and scale-up of advanced photonics technologies supporting next-generation AI and hyperscale data center connectivity.
This role serves as a key technical leader, responsible for driving manufacturing strategy, yield improvement, and production scalability of high-speed optical modules (400G / 800G and beyond). The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in compound semiconductor fabrication, laser device manufacturing, and high-volume photonics production, along with a proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the technical authority for InP laser device manufacturing processes across wafer fabrication, device processing, and manufacturing integration
- Define and execute the manufacturing technology roadmap for next-generation photonic devices
- Lead resolution of complex manufacturing challenges related to yield, reliability, and process scalability
Manufacturing Strategy & Production Scaling
- Drive scale-up of InP laser manufacturing from pilot to high-volume production
- Develop strategies to improve manufacturing efficiency, yield performance, and cost structure
- Implement advanced manufacturing methodologies including automation, process control, and data-driven decision making
Process Integration & Yield Improvement
- Oversee end-to-end process integration for InP photonic device manufacturing
- Lead cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve yield excursions, reliability issues, and process variations
- Apply SPC, DOE, and manufacturing analytics to improve performance and consistency
Technology Transfer & New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Lead technology transfer from R&D into production
- Support new product introduction for next-generation photonic components
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability, scalability, and reliability requirements
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with teams across:

- Device Engineering
- Reliability & Quality
- Operations & Supply Chain
- Equipment Engineering
- Align engineering execution with business goals, customer requirements, and production ramp timelines
Organizational Leadership (Senior Manager Level)
- Build, lead, and mentor a team of manufacturing and process engineers
- Establish engineering priorities aligned with capacity expansion
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations
- Develop technical talent and strengthen organizational capabilities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Materials Science
- Applied Physics
- Semiconductor Engineering
- or related field
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductor or photonics manufacturing
- Strong experience in compound semiconductor fabrication, particularly InP-based devices
- Proven experience in high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environments
- Track record of leading yield improvement, manufacturing scale-up, or process integration initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with InP epitaxy processes (MOCVD or MBE)
- Expertise in laser device fabrication technologies (DFB, EML, integrated photonics)
- Experience in high-speed optical transceiver manufacturing (400G / 800G / 1.6T)
- Advanced process control systems and manufacturing analytics experience
- Experience leading engineering teams in complex semiconductor environments
- Industry background with companies such as Coherent Corp.
