Job Description
The Production Operator 1 is responsible for crystal rod fabrication in the Rod Polishing/Grinding department on 3rd shift. This role supports one or more stages of production, including blocking, grinding, beveling, polishing, measuring, and inspecting a variety of rod materials and configurations to meet specifications and production schedules. The ideal candidate can follow technical work instructions, interpret engineering blueprints, and verify conformance to tight tolerances. This position also requires a strong commitment to quality, safety, organization, and accurate data entry through the electronic Shop Floor Control system.

Responsibilities:
- Perform crystal rod fabrication tasks including blocking, grinding, beveling, polishing, measuring, and inspecting rod materials and configurations per specifications and production schedule
- Choose proper fixtures and block rods for polishing; prepare polishing slurries and maintain laps as needed
- Set up and operate CNC optical grinding machines and overarm spindles
- Measure geometrical properties and visually inspect surface quality under a microscope
- Follow technical work instructions, read engineering blueprints, and verify finished work meets required tolerances
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area using 5S principles
- Use the electronic Shop Floor Control system for data entry and scanning parts through routing steps
- Perform all work in compliance with ISO 9001 quality and EHS management systems
Qualifications and Requirements:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft Excel and Word
- Effective communication skills with peers, engineering, and management
- Ability to communicate in English, verbally and in writing, in a technical environment
- Manual dexterity, strong work ethic, ability to multitask, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
- Good visual acuity, strong basic math skills, and strong attention to detail
- Ability to use measurement equipment, work in metric and English units, read detailed instructions, interpret engineering prints, maintain written records, and keep an organized work environment using 5S principles
Preferred:
- Associate degree or two-year technical degree
- Experience in a technical manufacturing environment, including measuring production parts, interpreting process output, and troubleshooting
- Optical fabrication experience, including the use of microscopes and mechanical or optical metrology equipment
- Experience operating grinding, cutting, or polishing machinery, manual or CNC

The base pay range for this position is $18.00+ per hour DOE. Your final compensation will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future growth.
