Job Description:
A precision manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior CNC Process Engineer to take full ownership of advanced machining processes and multi-part programs. This position is built for a true “doer” who can translate engineering drawings into robust CNC programs, workholding, and inspection plans—and who enjoys proving out programs on the shop floor and tightening processes until they are stable, capable, and efficient.
You’ll work closely with production and quality teams to validate processes, reduce cycle time, and drive first-pass yield improvements. The role has direct visibility to senior leadership and is ideal for someone who combines strong technical fundamentals (CAD/CAM, CNC controls, GD&T, metrology) with grit, accountability, and a collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities:
Build & Own Core Systems
• End-to-end machining process ownership (mill/lathe/5-axis) from concept through sustained production
• CNC programming and prove-out: advanced toolpaths; optimize feeds/speeds, tool life, MRR, and cut strategy; standardize program structure
• Workholding/tooling architecture: design low-deflection fixtures; select/develop cutting tools; standardize setups to reduce operator dependency
• Inspection strategy & control: define in-process and final verification plans (including CMM programs); align to GD&T and customer standards
• Documentation & change control: routings, control plans, setup sheets, standard work; disciplined ECN/revision control
Technical Ownership
• Metrology & quality integration: CMM, profilometry, micrometers/indicators; embed poka-yoke, SPC, and capability monitoring
• Automation/robotics evaluation: cobots, palletization, probing, in-machine measurement, and lights-out concepts where justified
• Root cause leadership: complex troubleshooting using 8D/5-Whys; implement and verify corrective actions
• DFM & cost partnership: collaborate to de-risk features, reduce cycle time/tool spend, and lower scrap/rework without compromising quality
Collaboration & Leadership
• Mentor and uplevel engineers/technicians in CNC, fixturing, inspection, and structured problem solving
• Cross-functional leadership with production/quality/planning on capacity constraints, launch ramps, and risk mitigation
• Customer/supplier technical interface support (FAIs/capability discussions) and translation of requirements into shop-ready processes
Qualifications and Requirements:
• 8+ years in precision machining process engineering (multi-axis mill/turn; high-precision components)
• Proven ability to go from print to production independently (G-code literacy, setups, program creation, prove-out)
• Expert CAD/CAM capability (SolidWorks + Mastercam/Fusion/HyperMill/Esprit/UG or similar); strong simulation discipline
• Demonstrated CMM programming/operation experience and fluency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
• Hands-on familiarity with common CNC controls (Fanuc/Siemens/Heidenhain/Haas) including probing/macros
• Track record of measurable improvements: cycle-time reduction, FPY gains, scrap/cost reduction
• Strong project leadership habits: milestone planning, risk/mitigation, and consistent follow-through
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred / Nice to Have:
• Automation/robotics integration experience (pallet systems, lights-out machining)
• Exposure to additive/3D printing for fixturing or prototyping workflows
• Lean/ASQ credentials (LSS Green/Black Belt), SPC/Minitab proficiency
• ERP/MES/QMS experience supporting routings, travelers, ECNs, and FAI/PPAP artifacts
• Comfort operating in a process-heavy environment with structured reviews/approvals
Benefits and Perks:
• Base salary range: $100,000 – $150,000 depending on experience (senior-level flexibility for an exceptional fit)
• Annual bonus opportunity (up to ~10% based on company performance)
• 401(k) with strong employer match
• Medical, dental, vision with employer HSA contributions (tiered by plan)
• Flexible scheduling and hybrid options
• People-first, supportive culture with practical leadership and strong team tenure
Your New Organization:
You’ll join a mid-sized, high-precision manufacturing environment known for a grounded, team-oriented culture. The leadership team is hands-on, collaborative, and realistic about timelines—focused on quality, process discipline, and doing things the right way. This is an organization that invests in its people, supports long-term careers, and maintains a “hometown shop” feel while continuing to grow.
