Temporary Payroll Specialist | 3-Month Contract | $30–$40/hr | Elyria, OH | On-Site
A well-established, full-service restoration and construction company is seeking an experienced Temporary Payroll Specialist to provide immediate, on-site payroll support during a critical leave coverage period. This role is essential to stabilizing payroll operations, resolving backlog items, and ensuring accurate processing in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll through Paychex, ensuring accurate hours, wages, deductions, and compliance
- Maintain employee records in Paychex, including new hires, terminations, and pay rate adjustments
- Review payroll reports for accuracy and resolve discrepancies prior to submission
- Manage payroll tax filings, garnishments, and benefit deductions in accordance with regulations
- Coordinate direct deposits, payroll checks, and year-end forms (W-2s, 1099s) through Paychex
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries regarding pay, withholdings, and deductions
- Support leadership and external CPA partners with payroll documentation and reporting needs
Required Background
- 1–3+ years of payroll processing experience in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with payroll platforms such as Paychex (preferred), ADP, UKG, or Paycom
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax withholdings, and wage/hour compliance
- High attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive employee data accurately
- Experience reconciling timekeeping systems and meeting strict payroll deadlines
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for payroll audits and reporting
- Excellent communication skills and ability to provide immediate coverage during transitions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in construction, restoration, or job-cost environments
- Exposure to accounting software transitions or system implementations
- Ability to step into a transitional role quickly and add value immediately
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly pay range of $30–$40/hour, based on experience
