Job Description
Our client is seeking a mid-level operations leader responsible for managing all aspects of a shipping department, including workload planning, staff supervision, and equipment oversight. The role focuses on optimizing shipping processes, coordinating with sales and quality teams, maintaining safety and cleanliness, training personnel, and improving efficiency across all outbound operations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the shipping department, including picking, packing, checking, and shipping processes
- Plan workload using operational data and delegate tasks to supervisors and personnel
- Ensure all department equipment (forklifts, pickers, cranes, hand tools, etc.) is properly maintained and functional
- Communicate effectively with department supervisors, upper management, and other departments such as Receiving, Sales, and Front Office
- Manage daily operational reports to track workload and utilize overtime as needed
- Coordinate with Sales on order priorities, late shipments, and expected ship dates
- Work with Quality Control on material discrepancies and non-conforming stock
- Process and manage pick tickets, ensuring clear communication with Sales, supervisors, and QC
- Support will-call traffic by monitoring ERP systems and coordinating with shipping staff
- Organize and manage loading dock space daily in coordination with Logistics and Sales
- Train supervisors on company processes, maintain training records, and identify areas needing additional training
- Conduct production meetings to discuss departmental issues and corrective actions
- Identify opportunities for improvement while maintaining a safe and clean work environment
- Lead, organize, and manage a team of 7–10 shipping personnel
- Implement and enforce departmental quality management system (QMS) procedures, including work instructions, training, process flows, and quarterly competency reviews
- Conduct daily safety briefings and maintain equipment checklists
- Perform quarterly maintenance on equipment and enforce safety protocols such as lock-out/tag-out
- Report equipment breakdowns and safety hazards to management and HSE
- Continuously create and maintain a safe working environment
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Capable of reading and interpreting industry specifications, charts, and tables
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
- Takes initiative and can work independently
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs with back support and stand for extended periods
- Comfortable operating a variety of warehouse equipment as assigned
- Competent in managing and organizing staff while maintaining a safe work environment

The base pay range for this position is $60,000–$80,000, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation.
