Job Description
As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled building and grounds maintenance and repair activities to ensure the upkeep of residential properties. Work is performed in accordance with all applicable state and local codes and program regulations. This role supports apartment communities by maintaining safe, clean, and functional living environments for residents.
Responsibilities
- Perform building and grounds maintenance including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, drywall, painting, flooring, exterior masonry, and landscaping
- Clean, repair, and prepare vacant units for occupancy
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections
- Respond to maintenance requests and complete work orders accurately and timely
- Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and shop equipment safely
- Interact professionally with residents, landlords, public officials, and staff
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain compliant work practices
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to respond to after-hours emergencies
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School diploma or GED plus three (3) years of building and grounds maintenance experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, cabinetry, drywall, painting, and flooring
- Ability to obtain and maintain EPA certification for refrigerant handling within one year of employment
- Valid driver’s license with ability to remain insurable and travel locally between properties
- Ability to prepare accurate documentation and work from sketches or instructions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform light to heavy manual labor, and work in adverse weather conditions
- Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to work professionally and courteously with diverse individuals
- Ability to use Microsoft Outlook and internal software systems
- Must be available for rotating 24/7 on-call emergency response
