Job Description:
A technology-focused organization is seeking a Lab Automation Engineer to support the deployment, integration, and ongoing improvement of automated laboratory systems. This role is highly hands-on and blends automation engineering, system integration, and field execution in real-world lab and production environments.
The ideal candidate has experience working with lab automation systems in production settings and is comfortable interfacing with end users, internal engineering teams, and operational stakeholders to ensure systems are reliable, repeatable, and successfully adopted.
Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and support automated laboratory systems in production environments
- Integrate automation platforms with laboratory instruments, robotics, and data systems
- Serve as a technical liaison between internal engineering teams and external stakeholders
- Capture field requirements and translate them into clear technical inputs for engineering teams
- Support system validation, testing, and performance optimization to meet uptime and throughput targets
- Manage minor system customization, version control, and documentation across deployments
- Ensure automation solutions align with safety, quality, and compliance standards
- Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in lab automation, process automation, field applications, or automation-focused engineering roles
- Demonstrated experience deploying and supporting automated laboratory or scientific systems in production environments
- Strong understanding of automated workflows, instrumentation, and system integration
- Experience working with or alongside:
- Liquid handling systems
- Robotic or semi-automated lab equipment
- Laboratory data systems (e.g., LIMS or equivalent)
- Ability to work directly with end users and translate real-world needs into actionable technical requirements
- Strong communication, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Willingness and ability to travel to support system deployments and customer sites
