Job Description
The Chemical Regulatory Specialist ensures that EPA and OSHA regulatory compliance activities related to chemical research, development, and manufacturing operations are executed accurately and effectively. This role provides direct support to the chemistry team by managing regulatory documentation, chemical handling protocols, waste streams, and safety systems that enable safe and compliant laboratory and pilot-scale operations.
Responsibilities
- Chemical Safety & Handling Support
- Assists in job hazard assessments and safe handling procedures for chemicals, instrumentation, and materials used in physical, polymer, analytical, and synthetic chemistry operations.
- Ensures proper labeling, storage, and segregation of chemical inventories according to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and internal requirements.
- Documentation & Regulatory
- Assists in preparation and maintenance of and regulatory documentation including SDS files, chemical inventories, hazardous waste manifests, and required OSHA/EPA compliance records.
- Assists chemists with experimental record keeping related to safety controls, environmental impacts, and hazard analyses.
- Supports creation and upkeep of SOPs, JHAs, risk assessments, and internal safety audits.
- Environmental Compliance
- Overseas hazardous waste accumulation, disposal processes, and environmental reporting.
- Assists in compliance with air, water, and waste regulations relevant to chemical R&D operations.
- Assists in tracks chemical usage, emissions, and waste generation metrics to support sustainability and regulatory requirements.
- Lab Safety Systems & Training
- Partners with the Sr Chemistry Manager to reinforce a culture of safe and clean work environments.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Maintains open communication with chemists, engineers, and R&D leadership to ensure safety systems align with ongoing and future projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to partner with chemists, engineers, and managers in a fast-paced R&D environment.
- Ability and willingness to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with chemical inventories, SDS management, hazardous waste handling, and EHS documentation systems.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

The base salary range for this position is $30.00/hour, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation. Your final salary will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
