Job Description:
A leading chemical distributor is seeking a relationship-driven Business Development Manager to grow and manage business in the phosphate industry. The role involves calling on manufacturers, maintaining existing accounts, developing new customers, and exploring untapped market areas. This is a hybrid role that includes occasional travel within the Houston area for client visits.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of industrial chemical sales experience, strong communication and negotiation skills, and a proven ability to build long-term client relationships. Compensation includes a base salary plus annual bonus, with flexibility for candidates who bring strong industry contacts.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and grow business within the US food phosphate industry.
- Maintain relationships with existing clients and develop new customer accounts.
- Identify and pursue untapped market opportunities.
- Conduct sales calls, presentations, and client meetings in the Houston area and beyond.
- Assess market competition and report findings to management.
- Forecast sales, prepare budgets, and help achieve sales and profit goals.
- Communicate effectively with clients, internal teams, and management.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive them to successful completion.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of industrial chemical or related sales experience (food phosphates, silicones, or similar).
- Proven track record of building and maintaining long-term client relationships.
- Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Organized, professional, and comfortable with travel and client-facing activities.
- College degree in a relevant field preferred (e.g., Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering).
- “Sales personality”: outgoing, confident, persuasive, and able to effectively convey technical or business information.
- Proficient with standard office and communication software.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred (e.g., Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering).
- Candidates with lab, R&D, or technical backgrounds will also be considered.
