Job Description
One of the premier educational institutions is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to provide comprehensive legal advice and representation across a broad range of higher-education legal matters. This role functions as a legal generalist and supports the University’s mission by addressing complex, sensitive, and high-impact legal issues affecting the institution
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and counsel on general and specialized legal matters impacting higher education and University operations
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, opinions, and guidance on complex legal issues
- Draft, review, revise, and interpret the University’s Manual of Administrative Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts; collaborate with internal stakeholders during negotiations as needed
- Process subpoenas and respond to requests under the Texas Public Information Act
- Represent the University in hearings, proceedings, and investigations involving federal and state administrative agencies and faculty disciplinary matters
- Manage discovery and provide litigation support for matters handled by the Texas Attorney General’s Office
- Support the University’s strategic priorities and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in the State of Texas, in good standing with no disciplinary history
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a licensed attorney
- Demonstrated experience in contracts, employment law, constitutional law, and litigation
- Prior experience in higher education or public sector legal environments preferred
- Strong background in contract drafting and employment law preferred

Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth
