How to Use Social Media to Find Your Next Job

Post by:The Reserves Network July 22, 2021

Searching for a new job can be stressful and overwhelming, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve needed to find work. There are many online job boards you can use to find job postings, like Indeed, ZipRecruiter or Monster. If you’ve searched on these sites over and over and have found nothing that interests you, it can be easy to give up for the day and hop on your phone to scroll through social media for a mental break.

Did you know that you can turn that mindless scrolling into a productive job search? Social media can be a great place to both find a job and research a potential employer. Sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and yes, even TikTok, have made it easy and relatively pain-free for job seekers to find the perfect opportunity. Here’s how you can use these four social media sites to help you with your next search.

Facebook

Facebook is a great platform for keeping up with family and friends, but you can also search and apply for jobs on the site. Simply click on Jobs in your main menu to see what companies are hiring in your area.

If you find something that interests you, you can then access the company’s Facebook page to see who they are, what they do and maybe get an idea of if you’d like to work for them before submitting Facebook’s short and simple application.

LinkedIn

You might have already heard about the power of LinkedIn to build your professional network, but did you know there are many ways you can utilize its features to land your perfect job? You can use LinkedIn’s job board to find positions you might be interested in or search by skills, companies or hashtags. Instead of searching by job title, searching by skills allows you to find jobs that require skills you already have or ones you might want to continue to develop.

As mentioned, LinkedIn is also a great platform to directly connect with hiring managers for the positions you’re interested in or companies you’re interested in working for. By social networking with hiring managers, you may gain an inside track in receiving an interview for a current job opening or learning about future job opportunities within that company. It’s as simple as clicking the “connect” button and sending a short message introducing yourself.

Instagram

You might not think about using Instagram to get a job but the platform has great resources for your job search. Search for hashtags related to your field or consider following accounts that feature resume tips, career advice and post positions related to your area of interest.

Accounts like @bosseduporg and @worklessons101 offer advice on resumes, interviews and dealing with burnout at work. Following accounts like these or ones related to your career path allows you to connect with a community of job seekers and feel inspired the next time you find yourself scrolling.

TikTok

The increasingly popular social networking service TikTok recently announced a pilot program called “TikTok resumes.” Users can create a short video resume and send it to recruiters through the app using #TikTokResumes in the caption. More than 30 companies are signed up to accept resumes to find employees to work in stores and warehouses.

Many companies also link their listed jobs in their bio, allowing interested candidates a streamlined experience to quickly and easily view and apply to available positions.

Of course, even social media can only do so much. If you’re looking for a true partner to help you throughout the job search process, a staffing agency like The Reserves Network is here for you. Our experienced recruiters walk with you every step of the way to get you the perfect job as quickly as possible. Contact us today to learn more!
