Keep Your Best Light Industrial Talent With These 5 Tips

Post by:The Reserves Network August 23, 2018April 9, 2024

Finding and retaining impressive talent can be difficult, especially in a competitive market. Light industrial employees must be reliable, mature, smart, and physically capable. Keeping skilled workers requires a series of steps, starting with an open line of communication and ending with employee safety.

Here are five ways to retain your best light industrial talent:

Provide a Career Path

Employees are happiest when they have a clear path for advancement. The appreciation of your employees begins with your willingness to hire from within and move your industrial talent up through the system.

Millennials seek career growth even more often than the previous generation, with 72% of young employees saying they value opportunities for advancement in the workplace. These opportunities will give your workers a strong reason to stick around – even if they aren’t completely satisfied with their current position.

Promise Ongoing Training

According to the Alliance for American Manufacturing, 78% of workers feel job training and education programs are important in the workplace. Employees perform best when they not only understand their position, but how to succeed within it.

To keep your industrial talent stable, provide ongoing training and improvement programs. Some companies foster lifelong relationships through mentorship programs that pair seasoned employees with new hires.

Develop a Strong Onboarding Program

Training begins with a strong, consistent onboarding program. Here, you pair your mentors with their mentees, provide essential video and on-the-job training, and establish a direct line of communication between yourself and your employee.

The more comfortable your employees feel during onboarding, the more hires you’ll retain over long periods of time. This will improve your bottom line, decrease onboarding costs, and underline your relationship with your employees.

Communicate With Your Employees

During onboarding, you’ll establish a line of communication between yourself, your management, and your employee. It’s also important, however, to find other ways to communicate with your team.

Weekly meetings are greatly appreciated by workers in the manufacturing industry. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions, address concerns, and work toward a more comfortable working environment for everyone.

Guarantee Safety in the Workplace

Your interest in the safety of your employees is showcased most strongly in your willingness to follow OSHA regulations. Ignoring these regulations can frustrate or alienate your employees, in addition to leading to intense fines.

In other words, consider the interest and well-being of your employees, and they’ll appreciate you for it.

At The Reserves Network, we care deeply about pairing your company with the right light industrial workers. Contact our experienced team to learn more!
