Job Description
The Buyer will support the Purchasing Department by obtaining materials, products, and services needed to fulfill customer orders and support company operations. This is a primarily behind-the-scenes purchasing role with no cold calling or business development responsibilities, working closely with vendors, internal departments, and the Sales team to ensure competitive pricing and timely delivery.
The ideal candidate will have purchasing experience within an electronic, technology, industrial, or manufacturing environment. Experience working with circuit boards or electronic contract manufacturing is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Obtain pricing and delivery quotes from suppliers
- Provide pricing and delivery information to the Sales Department for customer quotes
- Purchase materials and coordinate delivery based on customer order schedules
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with vendors and suppliers
- Communicate with suppliers regarding questions, delivery timelines, and issues
- Work with internal departments and suppliers to expedite materials and resolve purchasing concerns
- Obtain quotes for products and services needed to support company operations and facilities
- Participate in on-site customer meetings as needed
- Help identify opportunities for process improvements
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and an organized work area
- Follow company quality standards and participate in internal or external quality audits as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; degree preferred
- 1–3 years of purchasing experience within electronic contract manufacturing, high-tech, technology, industrial, or a related industry
- 2–4 years of purchasing experience in a related industry will also be considered
- Experience working with electronic components or circuit boards is highly preferred
- Knowledge of materials processes and inventory control
- MRP experience preferred; NetSuite experience is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization, time management, and multitasking abilities
- Ability to learn purchasing and negotiation techniques
- Knowledge of electronic contract manufacturing; LEAN manufacturing knowledge is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret customer requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and suppliers
