Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join our shared-services finance team in Santa Ana, California, during an exciting period of growth. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this highly visible, hands-on role will coordinate and review the daily work of our offshore accounting team while playing a key role in month-end close, financial reporting, tax workpapers, general ledger accounting, and reconciliations across multiple companies. Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and review accounting operations performed by offshore team members, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, reconciliations, and other daily accounting activities; assign priorities, monitor progress, provide feedback, and resolve or escalate issues.
- Execute and oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities across multiple entities, including journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, intercompany activity, and balance sheet reconciliations within Sage Intacct.
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules, including P&L statements, balance sheets, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and workpapers for review by the Accounting Manager, CFO, external CPA firm, and auditors.
- Prepare and maintain tax-related workpapers supporting federal, state, and local income, franchise, and payroll tax activity; reconcile payroll tax activity in the general ledger and assist with researching notices and discrepancies across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strengthen accounting processes and controls by maintaining SOPs, improving close procedures, supporting multi-entity accounting activities, identifying recurring issues, and recommending opportunities for standardization and automation.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant general ledger and month-end close responsibilities
- Experience preparing or supporting financial statements, reconciliations, and related accounting workpapers
- Exposure to income and/or payroll tax compliance support, including preparation of schedules or workpapers for external tax professionals
- Experience working within a multi-entity and/or multi-location accounting environment
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles, account reconciliations, general ledger accounting, and internal controls
- Hands-on experience with a mid-market accounting/ERP platform such as Sage Intacct and strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Demonstrated ability to review others’ work, provide constructive feedback, and coordinate effectively with remote or offshore teams
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Ability to work 100% onsite in Santa Ana, California
Preferred:
- Previous experience supervising or leading an accounting team, including onshore or offshore employees
- Accounting experience within staffing/HR services, payroll-intensive businesses, restaurants, real estate, or property management
- Familiarity with AppFolio or similar property management software
- Experience preparing tax workpapers for multi-entity structures, including corporations, partnerships, and LLCs
- Experience working within a shared-services finance or multi-company accounting structure
