Chief Financial Officer

Healthcare CFO + Trusted Advisor + Educator + Relationship Builder
Nebraska Hospital Association | Nebraska
Healthcare CFO + Trusted Advisor + Educator + Relationship Builder
The Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) has retained TRN Executive Search to identify its next Chief Financial Officer – a rare opportunity to shape the financial future of an influential, mission-driven organization while serving as a trusted resource to hospitals across the state.
A statewide platform for meaningful impact.
NHA represents 92 member hospitals, from prominent health systems to rural Critical Access Hospitals. Its next CFO will combine rigorous financial leadership with a highly visible, external-facing role: advising hospital executives, educating members, supporting advocacy and helping NHA anticipate what Nebraska healthcare will need next. This is not a traditional back-office CFO position. It is an opportunity for an accomplished healthcare finance executive to become a respected voice across Nebraska's hospital community – someone who can walk into a room of CEOs and CFOs, understand the financial challenge at hand, explain it clearly and help move leaders toward practical solutions.
The opportunity
Reporting to the President & CEO and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will provide enterprise financial leadership across NHA and its related entities. The executive will partner closely with an experienced accounting and financial operations team, providing strong oversight of the organization’s financial infrastructure while also allowing meaningful focus on member engagement, strategy, education, innovation and the organization's evolving business model.
What the CFO will lead
- Provide strategic financial leadership, sound stewardship and forward-looking counsel to the President & CEO, senior leadership team and multiple governing boards.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, controls, risk management, investments, audits and multi-entity financial performance.
- Strengthen financial policies, internal controls, contracting and approval processes, and financial oversight of organizational commitments across NHA and its related entities
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to member hospital CEOs and CFOs across both PPS and Critical Access Hospital environments.
- Translate reimbursement, Medicare, Medicaid, State Directed Payment and other payer or regulatory developments into clear, actionable insight for members, and serve as a financial resource in support of NHA-administered payment programs.
- Present at conferences, board meetings and member forums, making complex financial topics understandable and relevant.
- Partner with NHA's advocacy team to support state and federal advocacy efforts, providing the financial expertise and member perspective needed to articulate the operational and financial implications of policy, reimbursement and regulatory proposals.
- Mentor emerging healthcare finance leaders and help strengthen the statewide network of hospital financial professionals.
- Identify member needs that could become new services, programs, partnerships, operational improvements or sustainable revenue opportunities for NHA.
- Build relationships within Nebraska and beyond to bring new ideas, resources and leading practices to NHA members
The leader we are seeking
The ideal candidate is a seasoned healthcare finance executive who pairs technical depth with executive presence, curiosity and a genuine service orientation. Credibility matters, but so does approachability. NHA seeks a positive, collaborative teammate who enjoys building relationships, developing others and working across functions in a highly connected organization.

- Experience leading teams and partnering effectively across organizational functions.
- Sound fiduciary judgment and experience with governance, risk management and financial oversight.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field; an advanced degree and/or CPA designation is preferred.
