Job Description
The Receiving Supervisor oversees daily receiving operations, ensuring incoming materials are accurately verified, documented, and stocked. This role manages a team, coordinates with internal departments to prioritize shipments, and resolves discrepancies in a fast-paced environment. The position is responsible for maintaining safety standards, equipment readiness, and compliance with quality processes, while driving efficiency and organization within the department. Ideal candidates have strong leadership skills, experience in high-volume warehouse operations, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily receiving operations, ensuring timely and accurate handling of incoming materials
- Assign and manage workloads for receiving staff and team leads
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and documentation, resolving any discrepancies
- Coordinate inbound shipments with internal teams, including sales, procurement, and quality control
- Monitor daily activity and staffing needs, adjusting schedules and overtime as required
- Supervise unloading, sorting, inspection, and proper storage of materials
- Maintain accurate receiving records, including quantities, condition, and supporting documentation
- Ensure materials are properly labeled and placed in designated storage locations
- Train and develop team members on processes, safety procedures, and best practices
- Lead regular team meetings to address performance, safety, and operational updates
- Enforce workplace safety standards, including equipment usage and hazard prevention
- Conduct routine checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly and report any issues
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, productivity, and accuracy within the department
- Collaborate with leadership to support operational goals and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in receiving, warehouse, or distribution operations (industry experience preferred)
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, packing lists, and basic technical documents
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer proficiency
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and organization
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
- Basic math and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically active warehouse environment
- Experience operating warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) is a plus
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus but not required
- High school diploma or GED required
