Overcoming Uncertainty to Secure Critical Engineering Talent

The Challenge

The company was in the midst of a complex transition, being spun off and prepared for sale while awaiting U.S. government approval to finalize the transaction. The timing and uncertainty surrounding the deal—along with ongoing contractual considerations between the selling and acquiring organizations—created a challenging hiring environment.

This uncertainty made it difficult to attract candidates, as many were hesitant to pursue opportunities without clarity on the company’s future.

The Solution

Despite these challenges, we focused on positioning the opportunity around the company’s work in rare earths and luminescent materials—an area with strong growth potential and industry relevance.

To balance the uncertainty while still meeting hiring needs, we implemented a flexible hiring strategy: one direct hire and one consultant-to-hire placement. This approach allowed the company to move forward with critical talent acquisition while maintaining adaptability during the transition period.

The Result

The company successfully hired both a direct hire and a consultant-to-hire candidate in early January 2026, shortly after the holiday period. Final government approval for the sale was secured in February 2026, validating the decision to move forward with hiring during the transition.

This approach ensured the organization had the necessary talent in place ahead of the finalized transaction, minimizing disruption and supporting continuity.
