Job Description
The Principal DevOps Engineer provides technical leadership in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of foundational tools, platforms, and processes that enable the organization to build, deploy, operate, and manage technology solutions efficiently. This role takes a proactive, holistic approach to improving delivery capabilities and driving targeted business outcomes, with a strong emphasis on cloud-based solutions, including Azure. Working independently under general direction, the Principal DevOps Engineer handles highly complex and evolving technical challenges, influences architectural decisions, and serves as a trusted thought leader across technology and business teams while regularly working with confidential information.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of DevOps platforms, tools, and processes that support scalable and reliable application delivery
- Architect and support cloud-based infrastructure and solutions, with a strong emphasis on Azure environments
- Enable and optimize CI/CD pipelines, automation, and deployment strategies across teams
- Partner with application, infrastructure, and security teams to improve system reliability, performance, and operability
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to agile teams, addressing architectural decisions, risks, and technical debt
- Implement and support application performance monitoring, observability, and operational best practices
- Influence DevOps and cloud strategy by evaluating technologies and recommending solutions aligned with business outcomes
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Five or more years of related IT experience, including design and implementation of complex systems
- Strong experience with cloud technologies, including Azure-based infrastructure and services
- Deep expertise in at least two enterprise technology domains such as infrastructure, networking, application development, APIs, middleware, databases, virtualization, or cloud platforms
- Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation practices
- Understanding of software development lifecycles and agile development methodologies
- Experience supporting agile teams and advising on technical risk, impact, and architectural debt
- Strong knowledge of agile practices and experience with agile planning tools such as Azure DevOps
- Experience with application performance monitoring and observability tools
- Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Knowledge of enterprise IT standards, controls, and information management principles
- Insurance industry experience preferred but not required

The Pay Rate range for this position is $45 – $70 per hour, excluding benefits. Your final Pay Rate will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
