Job Description:
This is a hands-on Human Resources Manager role with a food manufacturer based in Conroe, supporting a plant and warehouse workforce across multiple shifts. The position is highly visible and employee-facing, with a strong focus on employee relations, compliance, safety partnership, payroll, and culture. The HR Manager partners closely with leadership and department managers to manage day-to-day HR operations, lead recruiting and onboarding, administer payroll and benefits, and ensure compliance with employment laws and food safety standards. This role requires regular time on the production floor, flexibility to support second shift as needed, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while driving engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary on-site HR leader for plant and warehouse employees across multiple shifts
- Maintain a strong floor presence to address employee concerns, support engagement, and reinforce culture
- Manage employee relations issues, including disciplinary actions, investigations, and terminations
- Lead full-cycle recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training for hourly and salaried employees
- Administer bi-weekly payroll and maintain accurate, confidential payroll records
- Oversee employee benefits, workers’ compensation, and coordination with third-party providers
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and food safety standards (FSSC 22000)
- Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures in alignment with company and group guidelines
- Support safety initiatives, including tracking required training, documentation, and monthly safety programs
- Partner with leadership on performance management, including annual performance reviews
- Plan and execute employee engagement and morale initiatives tied to company values
- Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and provide recommendations for improvement
- Manage HR systems (Paycom, training platforms) and maintain accurate employee records
- Prepare and manage the annual HR department budget
- Work independently while collaborating closely with leadership and department managers
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience in a manufacturing, plant, or warehouse environment
- Hands-on experience managing employee relations, including investigations, discipline, and terminations
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices
- Experience administering payroll and employee benefits (minimum 5 years)
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, production-focused environment
- Strong conflict resolution skills and confidence handling difficult employee situations
- Proven ability to build trust with hourly employees through visible, floor-level engagement
- Experience supporting or partnering with workplace safety initiatives and training compliance
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms (Paycom preferred) and Microsoft Office
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and documentation
- Effective written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical judgment
- Flexibility to support multiple shifts, including evenings as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual Spanish proficiency
- Background in food manufacturing or regulated production environments
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required
- HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred
