Job Description
This rapidly growing organization is transforming its industry with a state-of-the-art, cloud-native platform that streamlines online customer interaction and purchasing. They're looking for an experienced Database Engineer Team Lead to spearhead development as they continue their explosive growth.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage the database team, including sprint planning, task delegation, performance reviews, hiring decisions and mentorship of junior engineers.
- Database Expertise & Design: Serve as the technical subject matter expert for database services, designing robust and scalable database systems (Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB) that align with business objectives and the enterprise platform.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product and other teams to understand requirements, contribute to platform design decisions, and ensure solutions meet both short-term and long-term business goals.
- Infrastructure Management & Development: Design, implement, and manage database infrastructure across on-premise (Microsoft SQL Server) and cloud (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory) environments. Develop and maintain data transformation and repair scripts (SQL, Cosmos).
- Security & Performance: Champion a security-first mindset within the team and ensure systems meet performance targets. Proactively identify and resolve issues, contributing innovative solutions.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering/related field or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of proven experience in a combined database administration/engineering/developer role, including at least 3 years in a leadership position.
- Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills. Ability to lead and motivate a team while fostering a positive and productive environment.
- Demonstrated experience working on large software development projects, collaborating effectively across multiple agile teams.
- Extensive experience managing Azure SQL PaaS instances and Azure Cosmos DB instances. Proficiency with Azure Data Factory for data movement and transformation.
- Deep understanding of T-SQL, including writing and troubleshooting stored procedures, functions, triggers, and other core database objects. Expertise in managing security and access within Microsoft SQL Server.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex query performance issues using profiling tools. Understanding of basic security concepts related to Microsoft SQL and Azure Cosmos.

The base salary range for this position is $130,000 – $150,000, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation. Your final salary will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
